Armadillidium granulatum (Yellow Spanish Isopods) are large, hardy pill bugs native to coastal Spain and southern Europe. These impressive invertebrates reach up to 2.5 cm and feature a distinctive steel-grey base with bright yellow speckles and a bumpy, granulated shell texture that gives them a prehistoric appearance.

Perfect for beginners and experienced keepers alike, these isopods are easy to intermediate in care. They thrive at 20–25°C with 50–70% humidity and appreciate a moisture gradient—keep one side of their enclosure damp with sphagnum moss and the other dry. House them in organic compost or soil substrate topped with leaf litter and cork bark hides, ensuring moderate ventilation.

Feed them decaying wood, leaf litter, vegetables like squash and carrots, supplemental protein such as fish flakes or dried shrimp, and a calcium source like cuttlebone to support healthy moulting. Their hardy nature and active behaviour make them an engaging addition to any invertebrate collection.
