Armadillo officinalis 'Tamarix' is a captive-bred locality form from the Mediterranean region, prized for its earthy wild-type appearance and classic rolling defence behaviour. Growing to 1.5–2 cm, this hardy isopod thrives in well-ventilated enclosures with a clear moisture gradient—dry surface areas with sheltered damp refuges.

Perfect for beginners and intermediate keepers, the 'Tamarix' form excels in Mediterranean-style setups featuring generous leaf litter, cork bark, and rotting wood. They are ground-dwelling rollers that prefer open, airy environments over tropical humidity. A nutrient-rich substrate and consistent calcium availability support healthy growth and reproduction.

Ideal for both functional bioactive collections and ornamental displays, this locality-specific morph appeals to keepers who value natural tones, sturdy body shape, and authentic behaviour over bright colour morphs. Their calm, steady movement and strong conglobation response make them engaging to observe in properly structured habitats.

Temperature range: 22–26°C. Care level: 2/5 (hardy, beginner-friendly).
