Springtails, Redford White "Santa Claus"
Slime mould eaters
Redford White springtails, known as "Santa Claus" springtails, are captivating micro-animals from the Philippines. These striking creatures feature a velvety red body adorned with white spots and grow up to 5 mm, making them noticeably larger and easier to observe than standard cleanup crew springtails.
Unlike typical springtails, these gentle giants lack a functional jumping organ, so they move slowly and won't escape when you open their container. Young specimens start white and gradually develop their distinctive red colouration as they mature, resembling tiny red-and-white gummy bears.
These tropical, moisture-loving animals thrive in bioactive terrariums where they feed primarily on slime molds and micro-fungi. House them in a small plastic tub with a tight lid, lined with at least 1 cm of moist organic soil, decaying wood, and lichen. Maintain temperatures between 18–28°C with humidity close to 100%, ensuring the substrate stays consistently moist. They are selective eaters that prefer specialised slime molds over generic foods, making them ideal for dedicated bioactive setups.
Perfect for enthusiasts looking to establish a thriving cleanup crew in their vivariums and terrariums.
Shipped as Juveniles, subadult, mixed.
