Armadillidium Gestroi "Yellow-spotted" Isopod
Armadillidium gestroi, the giant yellow-spotted isopod, is a striking Mediterranean woodlouse prized by collectors for its impressive size and stunning appearance. Reaching up to 2.2 cm in length, these isopods feature polished dark greyish-black carapaces adorned with vivid lemon-yellow triangular markings that create a truly eye-catching contrast.
Native to the rocky coastal regions of Southern Europe, particularly France and Italy, these fascinating creatures can roll into a tight defensive ball when disturbed. They're one of the largest Armadillidium species available, making them a captivating addition to any invertebrate collection.
Care is straightforward. Maintain temperatures between 18–24°C and provide a moisture gradient with humidity around 50–70%—keep one side of the enclosure damp and the other dry. Ensure good cross-ventilation to prevent stagnant air. House them on a deep layer of decaying hardwood leaf litter and rotten wood, supplemented with vegetables like carrot and sweet potato, plus a calcium source such as crushed eggshells.
Perfect for experienced keepers and collectors seeking a visually stunning, manageable species.
