Armadillidium Klugii "Clown"

Armadillidium klugii, the striking clown isopod, brings vibrant personality to any vivarium. Native to the Balkan region and Dalmatian coast, these land crustaceans display a dark base adorned with bold rows of white or yellow spots and a distinctive reddish-orange outer skirt. Their eye-catching pattern is believed to mimic the venomous Mediterranean widow spider, offering natural predator deterrence.

Growing to 14–21mm, clown isopods are notably bolder and more active than many isopod species, making them ideal for display enclosures where you can appreciate their confident behaviour.

Maintain temperatures between 18–26°C and create a moisture gradient with mostly dry substrate and one damp corner or moss hide. Ensure good cross-ventilation. Feed decaying leaf litter, soft rotting wood, occasional vegetable scraps like squash or carrot, and protein twice weekly such as fish flakes. Provide constant access to calcium through cuttlebone.
