Armadillo officinalis "Greece" (Pied Gene) — the Greek Hissing Isopod, is a striking terrestrial woodlouse prized by invertebrate keepers for its impressive size and unique defensive behaviour. These robust creatures can reach up to 2 cm as adults and are famous for their ability to roll into a perfect sphere, plus the distinctive hissing sound they produce when disturbed.

Native to Southern Europe including Greece, Spain, and France, these isopods thrive in warm, moderately humid conditions. Maintain temperatures between 18–24°C and humidity around 60–75% with a strict moisture gradient — a damp side and completely dry side in the enclosure.

Feed on decaying leaf litter, rotting wood, and supplementary calcium sources like cuttlefish bone. Occasional protein such as fish food supports healthy growth. Ideal for experienced keepers seeking an engaging, hardy species with fascinating natural behaviours.
