Cristarmadillidium muricatum "Spikey Pineapple"
Cristarmadillidium muricatum, the Spikey Pineapple, is a mesmerising Spanish isopod celebrated for its remarkable spiky, pineapple-like exoskeleton. Reaching just 6–8 mm, these nocturnal land crustaceans showcase stunning coloration from pale yellow through soft peach to warm orange tones.
Exceptionally hardy and straightforward to care for, they thrive at room temperature (18–26°C) in moderate humidity. Create a moisture gradient with moss on one side and a drier area on the other, ensuring adequate ventilation throughout their enclosure.
These isopods thrive on decaying hardwood leaf litter, white rotting wood, fresh vegetables, and calcium supplements such as cuttlebone. Their naturally shy temperament means they prefer retreating under bark and debris, making them perfectly suited to naturalistic bioactive setups where they can behave naturally.
Ideal for dedicated isopod keepers seeking a distinctive, compact species that combines striking visual appeal with minimal care demands.
Shipped as mixed sizes of juveniles.
